Hey guys, it’s been a while since the last progress report.
But no progress report doesn’t mean no progress ;)
Newcomers:
We got new members! Darian and Raitei volunteered to help us with the Editing and their work is marvelous!
With their help this is how it looks like right now.
Story:
The second story Edit is halfway done. 51% to be exact. The speed this is going at is awesome.
Translation: 100%
First Edit: 100%
Second Edit: 51%
Darian really helped to speed up this process.
NPCs:
Translation: 100%
First Edit: 20%
Second Edit: 20%
With the help of Raitei and Kalker this area is being taken care off and it’s only a matter of time now ;)
ASM:
100%, no bugs discovered, so far.
And last but not least, we have a surprise for you guys :)
This video covers the whole Forest Area, including all the NPCs. So you can see a complete area fully done. Things are not final and subject to change,
but I hope you’ll enjoy the video nevertheless.

That sounds realistic, but as always:
This doesn’t only depend on me. As you can see and I hope you all understand guys, schedules in a group are a thing that is difficult to control and we all have very different lifes with VERY different timezones. The only thing I can say for sure is that I have to turn in my thesis in 3 weeks and after that I should have much more time.

Is there anyway you could just release the product as is? I’m sure 99% of us is okay with a few misspells and a bug here or there. It would give us so much to do in our wait for the finished product. heck with the thousands of us playing i’m sure we can point bugs and misspells that we could report to you. making your job a lot easier. I’m a big fan of what your doing, and if there was a donate button i would smack that with 10 bucks no problem for all the time you guys put in to this and im sure others would as well. But please i been waiting so long at least since i foudn out what you’ve been doing since January. I would love a early release. And gladly re download it when the game is truly finished. Thanks for all your hard work. I know you guys been through a lot to do what you do.

Thanks for all your support guys, it’s great to see everyone get excited about this project.
@Rob: That’s an impressive speed run, thanks for posting it.
@Mikito S: We’re not going to an early release, sorry. Although the first half or so of the game could be released today in “acceptable” condition, it won’t be as good as the final release. More importantly, the second half of the game and most of the NPCs haven’t been edited at all. Playing it as is would be possible, but not a very enjoyable experience since so much of the grammar would sound weird, a few random lines we missed are still in Japanese, but mostly, they just haven’t been examined by native English speakers to make them sound natural, and it shows.
On the bright side, some people have been waiting for two years, so you’re getting off easy.

To be quite honest if you didn’t like P3 i would not play P4. The game can get quite boring and long at parts just like P3. It’s not a bad game at all it’s just that you really need patience if you want to play it. One reason I also personally never liked persona is because to me it seemed like you NEEDED a guide to get the ending you wanted and the social links maxed out and everything else. I still loved the series though of course. For an rpg I really can’t recommend many since I don’t play any real true rpg games none that have turn based battles if that’s what your looking for.

@Sporky : Havent tried Persona3 , but Persona4 have amazing Social Links and full voice acting for important character.
you will need 4-5 hour for each dungeon. there’s 7 or 8 dungeon in total.
took me 70 hours to finish first playthrough , not all Social Links finished yet , had to play 2nd
Persona4 Golden is way easier , can choose Persona skill instead of randomized , gold easier to get, 3 ingame months extra gameplay after final boss.
its good game if you interested on the character progression.
got Transfer student, Tomboy, Inn Manager , Idol , Delinquent , Detective with each their own story and dark inner self.

Hey Romsstar and team! thanks for the Progress report. First and foremost I was one of the fans who kept quiet these entire 2 years while you were trying to completely translate the game and I’m extremely excited the game will soon be played in English. Secondly, I’m not sure if this was brought up already, there seems to be a glitch when you use Jijimon’s computer. Where you input the password for items and all? In my game,a partially patched game I may add, using the computer to input password freezes the game. I dunno if you guys already tried using the computer but hey just making sure all bugs are fixed right? Thanks again and a fine splendid job guys. More power and hope you pass that thesis of yours and receive high marks. Thanks guys.

Yeah, we noticed that and a couple other typos immediately after the video went up. Oh well, they’re corrected now. You can contact me on Skype at sporkymcforkinspoon if you like. We’re good for the moment, but as we get closer to being finished we’d like some sets of fresh eyes to watch videos of each scene to spot any typos that we miss. After you look over each line in a scene ten or fifteen times you can miss obvious typos like that one precisely because you’ve read it too often.

@Sporky On the whole playing persona 3 thing. It’s a kinda niche game since it’s weird on the rpg scene. It’s like a halfway visual novel. Most people only like one or two games in the series tbh. I’d recommend 4 over 3 but that’s because I value music as a part of the game quality. (Not that 3 had bad music Per Se, just liked 4’s music better.) Now a good rpg series to play is the Legacy of YS series. It’s like Sony’s answer to Legend of Zelda. Oh and btw if you guys need another proofreader I could help out. I’m quite proficient with English.

I’m so exited for this , soon I will be able to understand what I’m actually doing in the game and it’s story :) question as well , doe’s this game work all the way to the end of the ppsspp emulator ? I own the actual Japanese game for my psp but have no idea how to make an English patch work on my psp so it would be easier for me to use the emulator.
Hope it’s still going well for you all , did you just wake up one day and say I’m going to translate digimon re-digitize , is it fun translating ?

It would depend on what comes up. We’ve already had several people stop working on the project over the last two years, and we just accepted that and kept working, finding replacements when possible. So, if it were just a case where one person has to drop out, no problem. On the other hand, if what comes up is Namco Bandai were to send us a C&D or other legal threat, we would have to consider our options closely, consult a lawyer, and do what we think is best. Unfortunately, that would probably mean dropping the patch entirely. A third possibility exists as well; if Bamco decided to localize the game, we would also probably stop working on this out of respect for the company, and so we wouldn’t get sued.
That last one is unlikely, we consider Decode to be a different game for those purposes since they are very different, and the PSP is basically dead.

@liam Tamer:
I used to work a lot on Digimon World 1, CUE (A spanish Romhacker) and I wrote a fix for the PAL Bug (First I wrote one for the german version and together we finished one for all PAL Versions) and the Giromon Jukebox Bug. When Redigitize was announced I thought I gotta do it.
I love Digimon World 1 and Redigitize was just a dream come true. I do love translating and when the game was announced I finally felt that my Japanese was up to a level where I could translate with confidence.
But actually we did have help from some Native Speakers in some cases, which was very valuable. As someone once said: “The Japanese used in Games and the everyday Japanese are like 2 different languages. If you want to localize games you need to have played lots of japanese games” (Or sorta like that)
So yeah I enjoyed the idea of doing this, especially since Digimon World 1 was translated horribly and I knew they wouldn’t bother for the game and I wanted to provide a good translation this time… Everyone else joined up, either because they love digimon, digimon world 1 or the game as well.
In the end, the decision to translate it was made the day the game got announced. Although I gotta say nobody from the original team (Day 1) is still part of the team right now. But I love the team we have right now, things are good.

I haven’t played the Japanese rom(too hard) or watched a real walkthrough yet,but how does this game hold up against Digimon world 1? Like is it still obnoxiously specific(erm does nunemon still exist), easier or harder?
How has the breeding changed in general?

August 15, 2014 at 3:02 pm
It hasn’t changed much, except for that it became easier.
Numemons obviously still exist.
But since Digimon World 1 was a really easy game, I don’t really like how they made Redigitize easier.
Luckily Decode was made a little bit harder again, so the difficulty is closer to DW1, as the Japanese fans also felt the same way, and said the game has to be made harder, where’s the fun if a game is easy?
It really sucks how games nowadays become easier, when they were never hard to begin with. I can’t recall a game giving me trouble for the last ten years. At least in the 90s there were some challenging games.. Back then we played for the challenge and for the fun, nowadays you play for the Platin Trophy and pay for DLCs which make your life easier… :/

years later I beat it with just the necessary stats within days.

I found Dark Souls to be difficult until a certain point to be honest.
Once you get the hang of the different styles of combat, and the way the world works it gets substantially easier. Still challenging, but not that hard perse. It still is one of the greatest games I played though, mainly because of that same steep learning curve. You actually feel that sense of accomplishment when you succeed at something, and because you are forced to think out of the box during many encounters, that feeling is only strengthened :)
@Sporky
If you decide to play Persona 4, and you are even mildly interested in anime, I would also suggest watching its anime series. I had a blast with it :)

Yeah I’m waiting for your patch now before I do anything I have so many digimon games to play in the mean time , so hopefully by the time I complete DW 1 2 3 4 , data squad , adventure , anode cathode trainer , DM Card battle , your awesome patch might be ready . how often do you guys get together to work on it ? do you have to keep passing files to each other across the net or is it all done on one computer ? I find the translation process very interesting. Wish I was smart enough to learn Japanese so I could help lol .

The next on Romsstar and I’s list is to finish Adventure with CompCom, we haven’t made any definite plans after that. We’re talking about maybe Tag Tamers, but we’re not trying to be an exclusively Digimon team. But with an Adventure 03 season coming out, Tag Tamers might be important. So much of Adventure 02 makes no damn sense if you haven’t at least read a summary of what happened in Ryo’s games.

I’m not sure what you mean “how progress is made.” Like the story, everything has had a rough translation, and we have two members of our team going through them and fine tuning the details now that we have more context. It’s coming along, we’ve all been busy this last week, but progress is being made, the NPCs for several areas are in release candidate shape, which is where we want everything to be in the near future.
Once the second round of editing finishes two things will happen. First, everyone on the team will be given a copy of the beta patch (currently, to avoid the temptation to leak it, only Romsstar has an up to date version) and will play through it looking for any typos or places that need more polish, as well as any potential bugs that might have been created by our ASM hacking, though we haven’t spotted any so far.. Second, we will ask for people with a good grasp of English and no training in Japanese to watch videos of each area and do the same thing, spotting any typos or spots where the translation only makes sense to people who have read the original Japanese. These videos may or may not be made available to the public, we haven’t decided.

@Jack Carter: Basically, at this point Romsstar has made videos of most of the sections of the game, which makes it possible for members of the team to who says what, and in what order. Then our editors, most of whom have a reasonable amount of skill in Japanese, check the translation for accuracy, and make the translation sound like something a native English speaker would say.
@Capt. Obvious: No, because it’s not done yet.

You’ll have to put custom firmware or Homebrew Enabler (HEN) on your PSP, but once that’s done it our patch works equally well on both. We’ll have a tutorial for everything you’ll need to do to play the game legally when the patch comes out. Note that for legal reasons, we cannot condone the cool crime of copyright infringement, or give advice on how to download an ISO from one of many convenient and easy to use sites across the internet.
On a less sarcastic note, I really do recommend buying a legitimate copy of the game to those who can afford to do so. If users of our patch support Bamco by buying the game, it may encourage them to create more Digimon games in future, and port them to the West officially, which would be better for all of us.

I just actually last week bought both psp games off ebay for very very cheap. Id like to also actually play it translated on my psp but have no idea how to add a patch with an actual UMD or how ever it’s done. how do I get a CFW ? I don’t need to do that GTA trick do I ?

Well, you can’t patch UMD. The legal way to play the patched version of the game is to rip an ISO yourself, patch it, then play it on your CFW’d PSP or an emulator. As for putting CFW on your PSP, it’s very easy. A very handy guide is available here: http://wololo.net/cfw4dummies
Ripping an ISO yourself requires that you have CFW installed, but it’s pretty simple as well, and a guide is available here: http://www.guidingtech.com/13895/extract-psp-umd-game-iso/

@The-Annoyer: We haven’t swapped the buttons, I’d have to ask how difficult it would be to do so, but probably fairly difficult. Stupid Sony, why they made that change to begin with…
Anyway, there’s only one story, the first and and second edit refer to gong over the story multiple times, we’re now in something like our third round. First Romsstar and the team members who ended up leaving did a rough translation, accurate, but not great sounding since Romsstar isn’t a native English speaker. Then I went over it and edited that translation, but due to some technical problems that have now been fixed, I couldn’t tell who was saying what, and we couldn’t know if the translations would stay inside the text box. For this second round of editing, we’ve fixed the technical problems and found two more skilled editors.
Once we’re done with this last round of editing on the story, we’ll make sure the NPCs have been gone over just as carefully, and then play test it to check for bugs and any typos or anything we might have missed. Then we’ll need to make sure that both versions of the patch are ready (one for the dub terms one for the original), and unless I’m forgetting something, we’ll release at that point.

The 3DS version has about twice as much of everything. The story has almost three times as many lines of dialogue, there are more than twice as many Digimon playable, the area maps for every location are much bigger, and there are even two more humans involved in the story who just aren’t present at all in Re: Digitize.
I don’t have the list of Digimon in Decode, but Romsstar does. I believe I’ve heard that Lilimon is in it, but I can’t confirm it since Romsstar isn’t online right now.

It’s basically a completely different game. Twice as many Digimon, the story is three times as long, there are two more human characters. It’s the same basic story, but much bigger, and, from what Romsstar tells me (he owns it, I don’t), just an all around better game.

You get to play as Niko and Akiho, then there’s a completely new character named Rina with whom you can play after you cleared the game. Twice as many digimon is correct, while the story framework is the same, the story is very different and the order in which you get to access some areas is different too. Many maps got much bigger, there are new facilites in File City which weren’t in Redigitize… A completely overhauled Soundtrack with many new very nice tracks… Access to Mt Infinity…
You can now hire Royal Knights as “bodyguards” to beat tough bosses and stuff (but they’re expensive), Online Ranking Battle…
They added the function to switch between different camera angles…
Phew so much I’d probably spend hours on this.
I’ll make a special report about Decode in the future, so you’ll see what’s different. It’s way too much to even compare those two.

there are other ones that are fairly similar.
For Greymon:
We got Fire Breath for Spitfire, we got Air Cutter for Megalo Spark
and instead of prominence beam Greymon can learn a new technique which is called Spread Bomb. It’s like the Fire Version of All-Range-Beam, which is kinda cool and you can learn it pretty early ingame as well.
Also:
In Decode many techniques were revamped, I’m still playing it so there MIGHT be the return of some of those, but I can’t say for sure.

I wrote an “unrigger” which made the Slot Machine fair and don’t cheat on you anymore. I increased the probabilities for Piximon and Mamemon to something less ridiculous than 2.96%. I did a lot and I still can do a lot.But Redigitize is my priority right now.

The Piximon isn’t random, I think… He was always on the Jungle (the second screen when you go through the bridge, where Orange Banana spawns) during early morning (pink part of the clock). Every time I spoke with Coelamon to get me to the Jungle I would get Betamon and leave until I had a strong champion, then I would visit it in the morning, and every time Piximon was there, Mamemon and it’s metal counterpart thought…

It’s unlikely that was why, I’m not nearly as familiar with the mechanics as Romsstar is, but I know that Digimon just die after a while. Their lifespan is reduced somewhat from things like that, but not a huge amount from missing the toilet a couple times. Did he keep some of his stats in the next egg? If so, then it was probably just him running out of lifespan.

Besides, the story is the part we’re finishing now, if I sent you the most up to date version, you’d get to about a third of the way through before it went back to being in Japanese because we’re only inserting the English once it’s fully edited.

In Ikebukuro there are the colored gangs, the Yellow Scarves fought against the Blue Squares, making the Blue disappear and leaving the Yellow badly hurt, and then another gang appeared, the Dollars, which didn’t had a color, they were transparent, and they meet in a website, but no one knows who the leader is. That’s that, anything else would be spoilers.

You’ll need either a PSP or a decent computer to run it. If you use a PSP, you’ll need to put CFW on it, and computer users will need an emulator like PPSSPP. You’ll also need an ISO of the game which you legally get by ripping your own from a legit copy of the game using your PSP with CFW connected to a computer using the program UMDGen. There are illegal methods that you can research at your leisure, if you like.
Once you have both the ISO and something to play it on, you’ll need to download our patch once it is released and patch the ISO. We’ll have a tutorial here on how to do so, but it’s very easy to do.

@Meganekoukekirabudayo: Not really. I can do some translating, because I took several years of Japanese in high school, and then watched raw anime for the next seven years. Mostly I do the editing though, which I’m good at in part because I’ve always had a talent for writing, and perhaps mostly because I did a lot of this kind of thing in high school.
If you mean the more technical side of things, most programmers who work in the ROM hacking scene are self taught. You have to be able to do assembly code hacking, which is difficult and not taught much anymore, especially since each type of hardware is different, so you have to learn new things for each system, and it’s basically all undocumented, since console makers don’t usually encourage people to hack their systems.
In both cases, the answer is just to start doing it, and then get better at it. I know that I’ve gotten better at both Japanese and writing since I started working on translation patches.

@Sporky McForkinspoon: Ok thank you. I thought there was at least some basic knowledge that I had to adapt depending on the hardware.

Most of our editing staff has said that they don’t plan on working on Digimon Adventure with us, so when we finish this game we’ll be taking applications for more editors, and people with some level of fluency in Japanese are generally more useful to us.

@Meganekoukekirabudayo:
Nothing’s really changed. RHDN.net is still a great place to get the basics down.
Although tables are a thing of the past, in most cases, it’s a starting point to understand encoding.
Hexadecimals and especially the difference between little and big endian are something you’ll always need.
And you have to, that is essential understand how Pointers work.
Those are the very very basics.

@ Arien: that’s selfish and ungrateful to say such thing to people that are working hard to make a translation for a game we all love (for free i might add) to criticize them on how long their taking is not going to make things go faster. if you’re in that much of a hurry to get the game 1. help out! stop bitching about it and do your part to make this happen sooner. if all of us can wait so can you. or 2. make your own translation and see how it goes…….. No? then shut the hell up and let these people do their thing at there own pace. they are doing the best they can to release the games as soon as they can. if i had the know how to help translate the game, i will, but like the rest of them i have to wait. but it will be worth it. keep doing what your doing guys. im rooting for you and excited to play this game. oh by the way im new hi guys. :)

Did anyone else notice the absence of kari in the new anime trailer?
Yeah, she does appear 1 frame when all the images are going on fast, but she’s not introduced with the other characters.
Not to forget, that at the end, her whistle rings at the end of the video on a really large tone, which was only heard that way on the movie, when agumon was about to die, and when tai left for the digital world again, after his day on the real world after destroying etemon.
Maybe the plot goes around saving Kari?

With the aspect of Digimon Adventure 03, I could see Season 1 and Season 2 groups teaming up to help each other. And I could also See Kari being taken captive. I would love to see more Megas from both teams because it does get a little boring only having 2 Destines having Megas throughout their series.
Also about the video games. Data Squad is a decent game, I mean I did not really like the characters(I do not like the series itself) but getting through them I did like the Digimon Galaxies and having to achieve certain things in order to digivolve to a certain Digimon. I also really enjoyed Digimon Dusk/Dawn it had a good story and I could have my favorite Digimon(Dorumon). I also like Digimon Championship it is similar to Digimon 1 as you raise digimon(although you can have more than one at a time). The only downside I feel about it is the fact you can not control the Digimon while they are in a battle and you just get to watch them fight.

Let me ask you guys a question, and it might sound rhetorical, but I’d like really like to know. Would you prefer that we make more videos and stuff, or just keep working on the translation as fast as possible? We can totally do more posts and videos, but when we do that kind of stuff, it definitely slows us down for a few days getting everything put together, and doing that more than ever month or two seems excessive to me.

I say ignore everyone and continue working at your own pace. Don’t waste time on making videos and pictures just to satisfy the few idiots who don’t get what it’s like to do anything but sit on their ass all day and not read anything.
The way I see it, if you’re not willing to read the entire thread, then you shouldn’t post. Saying there’s no progress, yet not looking at the posts (Or hell, even searching for Romsstar or Sporky via Search Function on a browser would do. It’s not hard.) Why should anyone cater to those guys?

When this first started, asking for updates was necessary because it was at 30 percent across the board on GBA for months. Now that progress has basically reached the finalish steps, anyone who hasn’t been here since 2012 would not understand the immense progress that has been made.
Hell now that I’ve gotten the Christmas answer, this was kind of fast. I started waiting for Fate/hollow atraxia back in 2010 and it’s still at 97 percent.

@Rommstar I don’t mind if you don’t post videos and just focus on the translation but my only request is putting a new monthly update, even if it’s tiny. The real reason is that I’m always checking for new updates on my phone and it’s so complicated to try to find the last one I read that I always end up reading a bunch that I’ve already read 😖
It sounds pointless but thought I’d throw it out there 😄 oh, and I guess I get excited when I see monthly reports 😂

@Random Guy: If you’ve read any of our posts, you’d know that we should be done by Christmas. You’re welcome to wait, as our other, more patient supporters are, or you can move on. If the game isn’t interesting enough to you that you’ll still want to play it in three months, then why do you care?
I’ve suggested to others before, and I’ll do so again here, if you don’t like it, then go make your own patch, with blackjack, and hookers. Strangely, no one seems to want to put in the two or more years necessary to make their own.

Hello, Romsstar,
I am Matthew, an ordinary Digimon fan
I have been watching you guys translating Digimon World Re-Digitize for months now, and I am very, very happy that you can translate this game for all of us who don’t understand Japanese! ^^
I have a very small request, after this game is fully translated and it is uploaded for us to download, can I share the ROM with my friends?
Thank you!

It is only legal for fans to make copies of their own, legally-purchased copies. Please do not ask the team for permission to break the law.

@Matthewzmd: Feel encouraged to distribute the patch file as far and wide as you like. However, as Huntar said, downloading a copy of the game itself from the internet is copyright infringement. While I personally see nothing wrong with that, in the unlikely event that you were to get sued for doing so, I don’t want you blaming us.
Perhaps more importantly, I hope that everyone who can afford to do so buys the original game. If nothing else, if Namco sees sales rise after the patch comes out, they may decide to take another look at localizing Decode, which would be a good thing for everyone.

Will the patch translate saved files? was thinking of trying a blind run at the japanese version and seeing how far I could get without knowing what was happening or being guided by walthroughs and would hate to get into it only to have to start from scratch when the english comes out. Probably would anyway just to see what I’d missed but would probably have an unhealthy attatchment to my mon by then

@NeoDaedalus lol, I brute forced my way through d-project. It’s a really interesting game, actually; there’s this little egg generator, and a meat generator, and depending on the codes entered in either determines what kind of egg (and therefore, what kind of digimon) you get or what type of meat you get. I got really addicted to it for a short while (until I completed it).
Oh, and to the translation team, I just wanted to say thanks for the great strides you guys have made; I’ve been watching you all from the very beginning, and the work you’re doing is beautiful.

Actually, come to think of it, I haven’t completed DW1-4 yet. But DW4 was crazy hard when I played it back when I was in school. I liked DW3 played up to Suzaku or Seiryuu town and then the PS2 failed -_-||

@Hawkes: Redigitize is great, actually. It goes back to the DW1 style of gameplay, one Digimon at a time, and it evolves based on a whole bunch of stats, and eventually dies. The story is pretty great too, though not as good as Decode which expands it a great deal. It’s even technically a sequel to DW1. There are references to your character in that one, and all of the areas on File Island are “evolved” versions of the original areas. It’s the best Digimon game in a long time, and frankly, probably one of Namco’s best games in a long time.
Also, DW4 never happened. It was a bad dream, just like the Matrix sequels and the Star Wars prequels.

@Sporky McForkinspoon DW4? What you mean? I thought I burnt all traces of that in a volcano. :P LOL
Sounds like Redigitize is promising. Hopefully, the new season brings some english content to the world aside from the Rumble Arena game. So far, what’s your take on the game? Interested? I remember playing the first 2 ages ago.
I can’t wait to play DW Re:Digitize. It sounds amazing. I’m really contemplating getting one of the new 3DS once it’s here in Malaysia just for Decode and Pokemon.

@Kinnear: You have no right to complain about their longness (…kinky.). Come back when you’re the one working on the translation, ‘then’ you can complain.
I’m personally surprised I haven’t seen Romsstar or Sporky complain more than they do. They’re honestly taking it a lot better than some other translations out there would.
Just… give them a break, okay? It’ll be done when it’s done. Not when you want it done. No one has the right to rush them, no one has the right to complain about how long they take. Personally I think they’re doing fantastic on the work. There are translations that are old as shit (We’re talking about 2000’s old as shit here), and STILL being worked on.
Two years is nothing, this year has gone by so quickly for me and frankly, I’m not only here to get this patch when it’s done. I’m here to support, and congratulate their fantastic accomplishments, and you should too! Don’t be ungrateful, don’t be selfish. You owe more to them than they owe to you.

Calm down guys. It’s really flattering how you fight for our cause but don’t feed the troll. In the end you waste energy and emotions on a people you couldn’t care less about. Ignore them, do what you do best, we do what be do best (which is, translating Digimon games).
I recall giving a release date many times.
Please take into account we had programming issues which really slowed us down and we would still have them if it wasn’t for CompCom. I know two years must feel long, but sometimes things are not in our hands. This translation depends on people who do it for free in their spare time. These people have lives, these people have jobs, or exams/thesis stuff. Those things naturally take precedence over this project. Please understand… *gg*

I appreciate the work you guys are doing, but I’d like to iterate some of the things you guys are doing, that some guests (ignoring trolls) fail to grasp.
Translation: You can’t just go to Google and translate each line in this manner. That method loses context and we’d end up with things like, “All your are belong to us!”
Editing: There are so many lines of text in this game, the video’s show less that .1% of all the lines of text that are in the game. Mistakes could have been made; Romsstar, et. al. are putting their names in a project that not only you will appreciate, but that they will be proud of.
Assembly: I do not envy CompCom, going through lines of assembly to understand the inner workings of a program at a level, just above binary, to find where characters in lines of text are given how much length they should take up. All in order to change it to look properly with English characters instead of Japanese. That would seem pointless for me to do, but it would look polished. It speaks to their commitment to both the product and their professionalism.
Thanks again for the hard work, and time you’ve taken out of your lives.

The amount of posts in the last few days is astounding. Looking at all the numerous people from around the world (And even Middle Earth, hue hue), is a pretty sweet sight to behold. The fact that everyone is here, and united for one thing, is so cool. I hope this goes to show Bandai Namco sometime, that Japan isn’t the only place people want Digimon games.

Syafiq:Well, once the game is translated, making the patch is fairly easy. We had to modify some of the game’s code to make it look nicer in English, but most of the work in making a patch is the translating.
Nade nade is an onomatopoeia, and it means to stroke something. I’m going to take a guess and say you saw it in a hentai?

HEADLINE: Second Edit of Story reaches 100%.
It’s been quiet lately about the group which selflessly decided to take on the huge job of localizing the PSP Game Digimon World Re:Digitize. But now we’re happy to report, that the Second Edit of the Story reached 100%. To ensure maximum quality, I make one last Translation check and move on completely to the NPCs.
Now while the NPCs are still at work, it looks like we should reach the deadline we called ourselfes and bring you the one or other Christmas gift… :)
Meanwhile, if you want to support us, please buy that crappy PS3/XBOX360 game. I know it really sucks but please show that company (You-Know-Who) that Digimon is alive, even if they have no idea what they are doing. This way you’re giving at least Cyber Sleuth a chance (I don’t believe in Decode happening anymore) to get localized, because naturally Vita and 3DS games are out of the question for now.

@Bacons: They’re not all that difficult, but there are a couple hundred of them, so we’ll be a little rushed if we’re going to make a Christmas release. We’re on track at the moment though, so here’s hoping.
@Andy Pabon: Good to hear from you. When the patch is done, it will be released as an xdelta file. You’ll need to find an ISO of the game on your own (the legal way is to make one yourself from the UMD) and use the XDelta program to patch that ISO. It’s pretty easy, and we’ll post a tutorial when we release the patch.

I was wondering the other day, is there any way that you can make this patch the game on-the-fly whilst it runs from the UMD?

@mrianmerry : I’m no expert but I believe it’s quite possible, although because it’ll be “overwritting” temporary and on-the-fly it will make the game go through lots of delay which destroys the point

@Mrianmerry: It’s definitely possible. There’s a plugin for the PS3 called Revolution that does exactly that, and StorMyu has been talking about making something similar for the PSP for a long time. He’s very anti-piracy, and thinks that patches should only be playable by people who have the actual UMD, which that plugin would do. While I respect his opinion, I disagree wit him, but that’s a conversation for another time.

Wow. That’s some impressive stuff. I was just pondering how you could make the patch work with the umd but didn’t expect it to be possible.
If that tool does become available, I think it would be better for the import market, purely because it then allows us to show the companies exactly which games have big fanbases overseas.

Well, the statue will probably take a while since I’m not good at carving (but I’ll gladly donate to a Kickstarter to make a statue of Agumon), but the patch is coming along pretty well.
We’re heading into the second to final step. Right now we’re inserting the text, and making any last changes to it while we do so. There are 294 files to insert, which range from a single line of text to a few thousand words, but on average they take about an hour to work through. Right now, we have twelve of them done, which puts us at about 4%. Once we finish that, it’s just play testing and bug finding, and then we’ll release.

That’s an awesome piece of news.
Any chance you have the time to explain what the file insertion process is? I’ve a barebones estimation in mind, but finding out more about the methods you use is fascinating. (favourite blog post so far was the one about asm hacks.)

I’ll ask Romsstar to. For me, it’s fairly straightforward. Romsstar gave me a program (a modified Falo tool, what it does I don’t really understand.), and I either automatically insert text from the extracted .txt files we’ve been working from, or more commonly, I do so manually. Due to the changes he made, the text box in the program is the same size and font the game uses, which makes it easier to make sure the text doesn’t go outside the box, so I usually enter the text manually, making any last changes I like, and getting everything to fit correctly.
After that, we use UMD Gen to put those files into the game, and then XDelta to compare the new ISO to the original, and create a patch.

@Skullbazon: We decided to nuke the post you were referring to (a very long, very profanity laden post calling Jacky an asshat). I can appreciate that some of our readers want to defend us, there’s a right way and a wrong way to do so.
@Jacky: We will when it’s done. Frankly, we couldn’t release it today if we wanted to. We’re currently in the process of taking the translated text and inserting it into the game, a somewhat time consuming process that we would have to do before we could release even an incomplete translation.
@Sirentu: I listen to a lot of books, but my favorite author is probably Brandon Sanderson. He writes epic fantasy novels, and is a fantastically talented writer. I’d start with his Mistborn series.

Like we already knew, some people have nothing better to do than troll the day away. Anyway keep up the hard work and please delete that comment if you can.

Well as far as I remember Sporky`s grammar is refined and doesn`t have many mistakes so it was rather obvious to me, lol. `i` instead of `I`, `thought that we are` instead of `thought that we were`, without metioning the wording seemed awkward.
On a side note you guys should keep in mind that Nanco/Bandai is aware of this project and if they didn`t intervene before, they won`t do now, specially after knowing it has support overseas.

That comment will be deleted, and the commentator’s IP banned as soon as Romsstar wakes up. For some reason, only one person’s account can have the ability to delete comments.
Namco/Bandai are at least somewhat aware of our project, I think. At one point Romsstar contacted them to see about offering our services translating the game for free, which they declined. That doesn’t mean they won’t send us a cease and desist letter, but hopefully they won’t. That’s also the reason we aren’t giving an exact release date, most projects get a letter right before they intend to release. The closest we’ll get is sometime around Christmas, but that is only true if we can get everything finished by then.

I’m sorry guys if that fake Sporky shook you up guys.
Obviously some people have really nothing better to do.
But I might point out, that such an importance announcement would:
A) never just be posted in the comment section
A) come most likely from me and be on the front page.
This project is not fake, we have never made any money out of this, and who knows, if you behave and all, maybe you’ll get something nice for Christmas ;)
Needless to say, the fake Sporky won’t get anything.xD

Thanks Skullbazon. Romsstar figured out how to give me moderation power, so I can delete comments and ban people when necessary. That should make things easier in future, though hopefully people won’t try to cause problems like this again.

@wdango: I don’t have citations. I have reasons to think like that :
1- Romsstar contacted them before to offer some kind of deal, don’t really remember what but it happened and the offer was declined.
2- Soo why would they decline?
a- They don’t want to spend in something that could be called “hopeless”
b- They don’t care since this project was initially free.
That means they supposedly looked into the offer.
3- From that I ask myself if there are any reasons for them to sue the guys involved in this project:
a- If this is Money Free, reasons 2\a and 2\b won’t be a concern.
b- You can think of it as a language mod. From my experience it’s unlikely to be a problem to Konami/Bandai. There are lots of VN’s english patched for instance.
* It’s not taking away their money, unless for some reason they decided to work on an english version.
* They allowed Duelling Network alive, and that’s virtually stealing their money, yet they don’t care.
Mix it all and you come to the conclusion : “They are aware but will do nothing about it. They will see how far the project reaches(In a global sense) and using that data decide whether it’ll be a good idea to localize a future game to be released with the continued Digimon Anime Project.”
Well that’s just me expeculating and I can be totally offtrack.

I wish there was portable toilets in real life, then i wouldn’t have to poop all over the place and wouldn’t have to turn into a certain green digimon every time i respawn after dying.

@Krownyh: That’s pretty much our line of thinking. We know they’re at least some people in the company are aware that this project exists, and it’s been long enough that it seems unlikely that they’ll shut us down. That said, it’s hardly a certainty. It’s possible for instance that Bandai Namco’s legal department hasn’t heard of our project, and that they’ll send us a C&D order at any time. I certainly hope not, but it’s happened to more than a few projects in the past.

if bandai is an asshole, they probably think like “i wont let these guys ruin our profit by translate the game before we do it. if we do it, it would probably be like 5-6 years or after the petition reach 1-10 mil after we were unable to take more excuse why not to do the translation. instead of buy our game just because a fan translation is finished, they probably get a pirate version of it anyway.”
by the way I really grateful for you guys to do the translation even though bandai and comment spammers will never give you any credit, while me and the other supporters will always encourage you guys to go forward and never give up. Don’t mind about bandai of taking down your project, they got quitter spirit since the beginning anyway.
